ERUM HASSAN
Undergraduate Researcher (worked in the Gunasooriya Lab, Spring 2023)
B.Sc. Chemical Engineering, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Expected-2025
Erum was born in a city of lakes surrounded by some of the tallest mountains in the world, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. In 2019, she had the opportunity to complete her IB diploma from Norway where she was introduced to the idea of sustainability. She developed environmental consciousness which motivated her in experiments with biofilm biodegradation and the effects of heavy metals on catalytic activity. Under the supervision of her chemistry professor, she enjoyed applying in-class concepts to observe the relationships in a lab setting. She decided to come to OU to deepen her understanding of sustainability from a Chemical Engineering perspective. In the Gunasooriya lab, Erum uses computational methods to study electrocatalytic properties. Apart from her academic interests, she loves painting, playing badminton, dancing, and reading.
